Is it ok to put a small band aid on a cold sore (hsv 1)?

i dont want anybody to see my sore cause its embarasing when i got to go out to the store or etc. and i put a small round band aid but im not sure if it ok. when people ask me what happened i just say i got burn with a lighter or that i got burn bith my curling iron. lol
