You bring up very valid points and it should also be noted that when europe went through its 2nd "dark age" it was Muslim Spain & Portugal and the knowledge brought by the followers of Islam that helped bring "enlightenment" back to the mes. In those 2 countries, you had synagogues, mosques and churches all thriving together as islamic law taught and protected the very thing you've mentioned, the validity of the prophetic teachings of those who came before Muhammad.
